Weetamix

In 1983 a teenager in Birmingham morphed almost overnight into DJ Weetamix. Influenced by giants such as Theodore, Cold Crush, DJ Cheese, Bambaata and DST, he hi-jacked the family stereo system and went to work. The results speak for themselves...

A true veteran of the UK turntablist scene, Weetamix has endured and championed in his own right for more than 20 years. With appearances in clubs across the UK and Europe supporting some of the biggest names in Hip Hop including Grand Master Flash, EPMD, Hijack, to name a few. His reputation has grown to that of a (quote) ÕlegendÕ.

Weetamix literally erupted onto the battle scene shortly after leaving high school in 1988. His initiation into the world of competition was hosted by DMC. By 1990 he had already won his first area final!

As if getting busy on the ones and twos wasnÕt enough, Weetamix hosted a weekly 2 hour show on Birmingham based Fresh FM for 3 years back in 1988-1991. Many followers still have tapes of the show and are vocal about the influence that the show had on them during their early teenage years.

Such was his dedication to his chosen ÔsportÕ Weetamix has competed on a regular basis and achieved no fewer than 14 area final results. He took a Sabbatical from competing and performing in order to set up and establish his own successful manufacturing business. During this time he kept in touch with Turntablism through Judging major competitions and, of course, developing skills in his spare time.

After a break of 8 years, Weetamix returned to turntablism in the public forum to deliver his passion and show off his ever developing skills, both of which are stronger than ever.

Weetamix has proven his worth as a producer/engineer with the release of ÔTake a fix of funkÕ in 1990 which not only received massive acclaim and achieved success in the UK and European markets in its own right, also featured on the majority of the major compilations of the time. John Peel featured the single on his show immediately after release and it also reached a very respectable number 3 in WestwoodÕs Hip Hop chart on Capital Radio.

Current projects include, competing in all of next years major national turntablist battles, further developing his long standing collaboration with DJ Sparra (the other half of Chief RockaÕs) and delivering new material with Birmingham clique ÔThe RockeryÕ.

In essence, Weetamix is a legend. His style is unique, his dedication unwavering and his ability to move with the times, unquestionable.

The ease in which he pulls in and responds to a crowd? Unbelievable!
