DJ Disk

Luis Quintanilla was born on October 7th, 1970 in San Francisco, CA. As a native to the Excelsior district, Quintanilla grew up in an area rich in musical diversity and culture. Surrounded by this stimulating atmosphere was an influential experience for music lovers, young and old.

It was at the early age of eight when a young DJ Disk first heard skratching on the radio. This became his first inspiration to succeed early at becoming a true skratch guru. Thus begun Disk's quest to conquer the DJ world and to be like no other skratch DJ in music history. By the time he was 11 he was performing at local shows and DJ competitions. In the early 90's, DJ Disk would collaborate with his long-time friend and cohort, DJ Q-Bert. Together, they dominated the DJ scene.

In 1992 DJ Disk joined the Rock Steady DJs where he would soon change skratch history by recommending the group change their name to Invisibl Skratch Piklz. Disk soon began to carry out his quest to become one of the greatest DJs of all time. With determination and incredible skill DJ Disk decided to leave the Invisibl Skratch Piklz to further change history and collaborate with other musicians outside the hip-hop DJ genre. As other DJs went on to do TV commercials and continued to work the same DJ events, Disk would go a different route and began to tour countries where skratch DJs had never ventured before. He went on tour and played for thousands of people in countries like India, Dubai, Egypt, Lebannon, Russia, China, Korea just to name a few. Disk has collaborated with legends like Herbie Hancock, Bill Laswell, Buckethead, Les Claypool, Rancid, DJ Krush, Mike Patton, Flava Flav, Zakir Hussain, Ulsted Sultan Kahn, Primus, Praxis. He's also worked with famous drummers such as Jack De Jeanette, Terry Lyne Carrington, Cindy Blackman, Brain, Tim Alexander, Brain Blade and Karsh Kale.

DJ Disk is currently involved in more than 70 recordings and more than 10 video/DVD concerts. As the creator of, and the very first, TURNTABLIST he has made the term known world wide. The young boy who was influenced at such an early age has fulfilled his destiny and he's only just begunÉ
