A groundbreaking new Grime Theatre performance tapping into the creativity & energy of talented Grime artists bringing the sights and sounds of pirate radio into the mainstream.
Birmingham Repertoire Theatre in partnership with Punch brings you ‘De-cypher’- a innovative theatre production with 18 Birmingham Grime artists working together with some of the UK’s top producers and artistic advisors to bring new writing and sounds fresh from the underground straight into the cities leading mainstream venues.
The process consists of the 18 artists gathering themes and hot housing with the help of experienced music practitioners to produce a theatrical performance with movement. The last performance saw the group take part in a workshop lead by Charlie Dark over two days, shaping raw lyrics into a spectacular display.
De-Cypher challenges both the artists and audiences to engage with the performance, prompting all to rethink their perceptions of a theatrical space and conventions.
All of the artists are working across the year to develop lyrical and performance skills, and create individual solo work as well as collective pieces, to produce a new theatre piece which will be shared as part of BASS 2007 and then embark on a national tour in 2008.
