PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Director of Punch Awarded MBE

Punch Records are delighted to congratulate its Director, Ammo Talwar, on being awarded an MBE in the Queen’s New Years Honours List for 2008.

The New Year Honours List reflects and pays tribute to;

“Outstanding achievement and service right across the community. Rewarding those who work and serve at the sharp end - people who have really changed things, or who have given outstanding service to others in difficult situations” (The Cabinet Office, http://www.honours.gov.uk )

Just over ten years ago Ammo set up Punch Records, a small music shop selling urban records in Perry Barr. It was his innovation, energy and commitment that today sees it recognised as one of the country’s leading Black Art organisations.

Janette Bushell, The chair of Punch’s Board of Directors commented, “For an urban music company Ammo has worked quietly over the past decade making a real difference to the lives of many young people and musicians.  As Director of Punch, his imagination and professional generosity has resulted in thousands of educational workshops and events launching new careers in the music industry. Many people who have worked with Ammo are now successful DJs, producers and workshop leaders inspiring others to reach their potential."

In particular Ammo has been commended for his maverick approach to music education, which has not only changed the face of music provision in the Midlands, but has changed and saved the lives of many young people in the process.

 Ammo says of the award, “I am blown away by this recognition – I feel it is a testament to all the hard work of everyone who’s been involved with Punch over the years. I am very proud and humbled by this honour”.

Ammo is incredibly dedicated to supporting and developing the talents of the next generation.  Constantly working to create a city where every young person has equal access to music making and arts opportunities.

Others named in this years list include -OBEs for Kylie Minogue, George Alagiah and Jazzie B, a knighthood to Michael Parkinson and MBEs for Brian Ashton, England’s head Rugby coach and John Higgins, the current world professional snooker champion.

Everyone at Punch would like to congratulate Ammo on this well deserved recognition.
