Everyone mixes with different tribes in all walks of contemporary
life - be it shop workers or suits; arty students; skinheads to
natty dreads; straight-laced executive by day - pvc clad clubber by
night. Are we tribal warriors or urban chameleons?
Part of Punch's two-year 'What is Urban?'
project, Urban Tribes is a multi
disciplinary ensemble piece, brought live and direct by the UK's
freshest collection of leading urban icons at the cutting edge of
contemporary culture. Charlie Dark's multi layered live music
twists beats, breaks & broken voices.
Courttia Newland's sharp observations present personal stories and
dark insights that trip through visual and lyrical landscapes,
blending with a seamless fusion of street influenced contemporary
dance. This strong collective is bounded by choreographer Shaun
Cope's forward thinking vision, ensuring that Urban
Tribes takes a step out of the concrete jungle into the heart
of reality.
Urban Tribes is a Punch project, co-produced by
Derby Dance Centre with financial support from Arts Council
of England.
